Site Info
This website showcases and promotes some of the best, most innovative and inspiring examples of Political Remix Video. These remixes use and transform appropriated footage (and audio) from popular culture to create new fair-use video works. For us the word “political” refers to works that are critical of not only of political institutions and government policy, but also social and cultural issues like gender, race, sexuality and environment. This blog is managed and edited by two remix artists and media activists.
Jonathan McIntosh is a media activist, remixer, curator, photographer and pop culture hacker. His remix work has appeared in independent film festivals, on community television and at new media conferences internationally. Recently Jonathan gave a keynote speech at Ars Electronica 2008 in Linz Austria as part of the New Cultural Economy Symposium. In February 2008, the Institute for Multimedia Literacy invited Jonathan to curated and present a show of Political Remix Video works at the 24/7 DIY Video Summit at USC in Los Angeles. He has also been a consultant for the RemixAmerica.org project and in July 2008 he was the lead facilitator at the Fair Use Remix Institute workshop in Chicago. His work and writing can be found on his personal site www.rebelliouspixels.com
Elisa Kreisinger is a remixer, writer, and video artist. Her remix work has been featured at UCLA, USC, NYU, MIT, Boston CyberArts Festival, the Boston Bike Film Festival, in the Boston Globe, and on the web at RemixAmerica.org. She’s had the privilege of working along side Martin Scorese and interviewing media activists Amy Goodman, Arundahti Roy, Anand Patwardhan and Gustavo Estava.
